In 2020, UNRWA will continue to support Palestine refugees affected by the protracted ... through providing relief assistance and ensuring access to essential education and health services. Drawing on its existing structures, supply chains and capacities, the Agency will continue to adapt its interventions to respond to ongoing and evolving needs in an effective and agile manner. In Syria, it is expected that the spontaneous return of Palestine refugees from within and outside the country will continue in areas that experience relative calm and where basic infrastructure is rehabilitated, as observed in Sbeineh and Khan Eshieh camps in recent years. In 2020, UNRWA will increase its efforts to rehabilitate its facilities and restore its services in areas of spontaneous return, including in Dera’a, where small scale returns have been observed in 2019. more

The 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) sets out the framework within which ... humanitarian community will respond to the large-scale humanitarian and protection needs in Syria throughout 2019, on the basis of the prioritization undertaken across and within sectors. The HRP, based on United Nations’ assessments and analysis, also presents urgent funding requirements to address these needs. It is anchored by three strategic objectives: saving lives and alleviating suffering, enhancing protection, and increasing resilience. These objectives are interlinked and achieving positive outcomes for affected people requires concerted action across all three. more

Guiding framework for development cooperation, Working paper 2017. This document was drawn up on the basis of expert publications and inputs from partners in ... GIZ regional programme Psychosocial Support for Syrian and Iraqi Refugees and Internally Displaced People1 in order to serve as guidance in the design, implementation and assessment of psychosocial support measures for refugees in the context of the crises in Syria and Iraq. It is aimed at actors from the MHPSS sector working with refugees in the Middle East and at ministries and academic/scientific institutions in the context of the Syria and Iraq crises. more
This publication provides an overview of UN Women’s commitments to the humanitarian community guided by the “UN Women strategic ... 2022–2025”. It highlights areas where UN Women has a unique advantage in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the humanitarian–development–peace nexus, and in contributing to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee priorities, including localization and accountability to affected people. The strategy adopts a two-pronged approach: strengthening accountability towards gender commitments in coordination and implementation of UN-led humanitarian and refugee responses, and strengthening comprehensive protection and livelihoods support to crisis-affected women and girls. While taking these approaches, UN Women prioritizes amplifying women’s voices, leadership, and agency as a critical and enabling cross-cutting area. more

The synthesis aims to identify: recurrent issues, patterns and trends, and promising initiatives and lessons learned from existing programming including mainstreaming in how UNHCR prevents, mitigates and responds to the risks of SGBV; institutional management and leadership for SGBV in UNHCR; factors which are contributing to success, including sustainability of services, and those which are inhibiting it; the extent to which questions on SGBV are part of UNHCR evaluations of emergency responses; more

“Because we struggle to survive” Child Labour among Refugees of the Syrian Conflict | This study provides pertinent first-hand information on <... reality facing Syrian children who are working either in their homeland, the neighbouring countries or elsewhere in Europe. Syria's civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Hundreds of thousands of people - adults and children alike - have been killed. Two thirds of all Syrians have lost their homes and their livelihoods. Millions of Syrians have been uprooted from their home communities and forced to flee within their country or to neighbouring countries. The consistent spill-over has drawn global attention not just to the humanitarian crisis facing both local communities and national governments but also to the economic and social strain. The bloodshed wreaked by the different parties continues. The suffering deepens. Approximately half of the Syrian refugees and displaced persons are children and young people who suffer from a double-vulnerability: as children and as migrants or refugees. more
