Los progenitores a veces consienten estos matrimonios por necesidades económicas. En estos casos, el matrimonio se considera como un medio de proporcionar a sus hijas una tutela masculina, de protegerlas contra las agresiones sexuales, de evitar embarazos sin estar casadas, de alargar sus años de fecundidad o de asegurar su obediencia en el hogar del marido.
