This FY 2017 Malaria Operational Plan presents a detailed implementation plan for Senegal, based on the strategies of PMI and the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) strategy. It was developed in consultation with the NMCP and with the participation of national and international partners involve...d in malaria prevention and control in the country. The activities that PMI is proposing to support fit in well with the new National Malaria Control strategy and plan (2016-2020) and build on investments made by PMI and other partners to improve and expand malaria-related services, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (Global Fund) malaria grants. This document briefly reviews the current status of malaria control policies and interventions in Senegal, describes progress to date, identifies challenges and unmet needs to achieving the targets of the NMCP and PMI, and provides a description of activities that are planned with FY 2017 funding.

Community-based strategies play a significant role in many health systems in low- and middle-income countries, especially in light of critical shortages in the health workforce. The term community health worker has been used to refer to volunteers and salaried, professional or lay health workers wit...h a wide range of training, experience, scope of practice and integration in health systems. In the context of this study, we use the term community-based practitioner (CBPs) to reflect the diverse nature of these cadres of health workers.
CBPs provide preventive, promotive, curative and palliative services across a range of areas, including reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, control of other endemic diseases, and noncommunicable diseases. Significant evidence has emerged over the past two decades on their effectiveness, which has triggered interest in the potential to use their services to expand access to care, in particular in rural and underserved areas where deployment and retention of more qualified health workers is problematic. Calls have been made to integrate CBP programmes in human resources and health strategies, and to scale up rapidly the extent and coverage of CBP initiatives.

The CHGN Ebola toolkit is a collection of resources that we hope will be of use to many of the organisations, agencies and individuals working to address the Ebola outbreak in English-speaking West Africa, particularly those engaged at the community-level.
The focus of the toolkit is on community... awareness raising and on prevention rather than treatment, reflecting CHGN’s aim of promoting community-based health initiatives. We have however, also included some resources on caring for people with Ebola, contact tracing and safe burial practices that are aimed primarily at health professionals. We have included guides on psychosocial support that are relevant to both health professionals and community members.

Afin de maintenir les communautés alertes et engagées, nous allons nous appuyer sur des exemples réussis d’engagement communautaire pour élaborer un programme de sensibilisation sur le paludisme en milieu communautaire et ce par ...des acteurs issus de la communauté ayant au préalable bénéficié d’une formation par des techniciens de la santé.
Ce programme qui a pour ambition d’être multisectoriel, vient renforcer les initiatives déjà mises en œuvre au sein de la communauté. A l’opposé des dispensateurs de soins à domicile (DSDOM) ou acteurs communautaires de soins, les champions communautaires sur lesquels se basera le programme en question n’auront pour objectif que la sensibilisation par la communication pour le changement de comportement. En soutien aux activités mises en œuvre par les districts et leurs partenaires, le programme vise à renforcer les capacités et l’encadrement de personnes bénévoles qui souhaitent s’impliquer ou sont déjà impliquées pour l’amélioration du cadre de vie et la santé de leur communauté et ainsi contribuer à l’élimination du paludisme au Sénégal.
Enfin, ce guide vient en complément au guide de formation sur le paludisme pour le relais communautaire, développé par le Programme National de Lutte contre le Paludisme (PNLP) en octobre 2015.

Patient navigation is an evidence-based personalized intervention designed to gu...ide patients through often complex cancer care systems to receive timely access, particularly in low-income and minority populations. It is useful in settings with limited availability, fragmented healthcare systems and socioeconomic barriers that hinder early detection and treatment. It is proven to significantly reduce delays, improve patient adherence to care and enhance survival rates. The model involves helping individuals and their families to tackle barriers such as cultural stigma, misinformation, and psychosocial, among others, that can delay or prevent access to timely care. It can also reduce financial strain, streamline care coordination and improve the overall quality of life by connecting patients with affordable treatment options and support systems to address their needs in the course of treatment.

This project launches the possibility of collaboration with other research centres, feeding the site with updated information on this disease.
Leishmaniosis prevention and control should include novel communication strategies that must be easily accesible and would include new advances in the knowledge of the disease. Recently, other animals different than dogs have been described as competent reservoirs of Leishmania, playing an important epidemiological role in recent outbreaks in Europe and Asia. At the moment, most of the information available is fundamentally devoted to humans and dogs, and there is no a global approach to the disease, taking into account all possible reservoirs.
The contents are available in Spanish and English, and come from the knowledge and experience in the disease of the above mentioned organisms, including research and information outreach.
The result is a website mainly focused on dissemination of the fundamental aspects for the control and prevention of the disease, taking into account that leishmaniosis due to its zoonotic condition, requires a multidisciplinary vision in accordance with the "One Health" principles. The web is complemented by a collaborative tool where the registered research groups can present themselves and disseminate their research results, therefore providing updated information on the scientific advances in the disease control.

Over the past 20 years, the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) has regularly published and annually updated a global strategy for asthma managem...ent and prevention that has formed the basis for many national guidelines. However, uptake of existing guidelines is poor. A major revision of the GINA report was published in 2014, and updated in 2015, reflecting an evolving understanding of heterogeneous airways disease, a broader evidence base, increasing interest in targeted treatment, and evidence about effective implementation approaches. During development of the report, the clinical utility of recommendations and strategies for their practical implementation were considered in parallel with the scientific evidence.

To assess the impact of these investments, a methodology was developed and pilot tested by WHO.
The impact assessment tool (consisting of an MS Excel calculator with two subsets) supports users to:
• assess and quantify the health impact of HRH investments made in the context of HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria programmes through their modelled effect on health service coverage of these three diseases; and
• provide aggregate indicative estimates of the range of health workers required to attain high coverage of selected health services.

Governments have dedicated a pivotal role to the private sector in the implementation and financing of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. This has pushed a turn towards the private sector, the promotion of multi-stakeholder partnerships between public and private actors. However, far too often there is a... considerable gap between the social and environmental commitments companies make publicly in political fora like the UN and the actual effects of their production patterns and investment strategies on people and the environment. A new working paper, published by Brot für die Welt, Global Policy Forum and MISEREOR provides an overview of the ways and means by which the UN involves business actors in the debates around the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It describes new initiatives and alliances of business actors around SDG implementation at the international level, and their main messages and policy proposals. With a few selected examples it contrasts the sustainability rhetoric of corporations with their business reality. And finally, the working paper draws conclusions and formulates recommendations for policymakers on how to increase the benefits of UN-business interactions in implementing the 2030 Agenda - and how to reduce associated risks and negative side effects.

In October 2021, the ACT-Accelerator (ACT-A) published its 12-month Strategic Plan and budget for the period October 2021 to September 2022. Building on the investment needs outlined in that document, the ACT-A Facilitation Council Financial and Resource Mobilization Working Group developed this Fin...ancing Framework to clarify sources of financing that could be used to fund the ACT-A budget. Specifically, this Financing Framework seeks to: • Confirm the overall investment required to meet global COVID-19 tools coverage targets for vaccines, tests, treatments and PPE, and how much of that funding would need to be channelled through ACT-A agencies versus through other initiatives and domestic efforts. • Identify the specific sources of financing that could be used to fund ACT-A and other complementary costs associated with the delivery of the global COVID-19 tools coverage targets, for example, donor grants, domestic resources, multilateral development bank instruments (including grants and loans) or a combination of sources. • Appeal to high-income countries and major upper middle-income countries with a clear and urgent grant financing ask and expectation of fair share voluntary contributions by participants to this ‘ask’ ahead of a potential pledging event in early 2022.
