DHS Working Papers No. 90.
Ramped-up cancer services could save 7 million lives over the next decade—and addressing huge service gaps between rich and poor countries is key to success, according to this report. In 2019, over 90% ... high-income countries reported that comprehensive cancer treatment services were available through the public health system, compared to fewer than 15% of low-income countries, according to WHO. But poorer countries can make substantial strides with a universal health coverage approach and use of the latest science to meet their particular needs. The report lays out proven ways to prevent new cancer cases without breaking the bank, including tobacco-control measures and vaccines that protect against common cancers. more

Responses of the Catholic Church to HIV and AIDS in Africa: Lessons learned

Fleischer, K., et al. German Bishops' Conference Research Group on International Church Affairs (2015) CC
An international field study by African and German theologicans and health workers.
The Strategic Framework for Emergency Preparedness is a unifying framework which identifies the principles and elements of effective country ... emergency preparedness. It adopts the major lessons of previous initiatives and lays out the planning and implementation process by which countries can determine their priorities and develop or strengthen their operational capacities. This fourth annual report monitors global progress towards the 2023 target for global elimination of industrially produced trans-fatty acids (TFA), highlighting achievements during ... past year (October 2021 – September 2022). Countries are responding to the World Health Organization (WHO) call to action by putting into place best-practice TFA policies. Mandatory TFA policies are currently in effect for 3.4 billion people in 60 countries (43% of the world population); of these, 43 countries have best-practice policies in effect, covering 2.8 billion people (36% of the world population). Over the past year, several additional countries took action to eliminate industrially produced TFA: best-practice policies came into effect in India in January 2022, Uruguay in May 2022 and Oman in July 2022. Best-practice policies were passed in Bangladesh in November 2021 (to come into effect in December 2022) and in Ukraine in September 2020 (to come into effect in October 2023), best-practice TFA policies are projected to pass soon in Mexico, Nigeria and Sri Lanka. more
Value in Health Regional Issues 4 C (2014) 37-40
World Psychiatry. 2010 Jun;9(2):67-77. The main recommendations are presented in relation to: the need for coordinated policies, plans and programmes, th... requirement to scale up services for whole populations, the importance of promoting community awareness about mental illness to increase levels of help-seeking, the need to establish effective financial and budgetary provisions to directly support services provided in the community. The paper concludes by setting out a series of lessons learned from the accumulated practice of community mental health care to date worldwide, with a particular focus on the social and governmental measures that are required at the national level, the key steps to take in the organization of the local mental health system, lessons learned by professionals and practitioners, and how to most effectively harness the experience of users, families, and other advocates more
