The outbreak of COVID-19 comes with unpredictable primary and secondary impacts on vulnerable and food-insecure populations across the world. Mortality
...and morbidity appear to be most acute for elderly people, and those with underlying health conditions. At the same time, the widely anticipated economic downturn could have a more devastating effect on the world’s poor than the virus itself

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the world beyond imagination. To date, it has infected more than 135 million people, killed over 2.9 million peopl...e, and is projected to plunge up to 115 million people into extreme poverty.1 As countries have gone into lockdown, gender-based violence has increased, unemployment has soared, and access to health care for the poorest and most vulnerable has been cut. COVID-19 has made people less likely to seek health care because they are afraid of getting infected with the virus. Fear and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 have also increased stigma and discrimination. As frontline workers without enough access to personal protective equipment (PPE) risk their lives to treat patients, the virus pushes already fragile health systems to the brink.

In the area of nutrition andHIV, children deserve special attention because of their additional needs to ensure growth and development
...and their dependency on adults for adequate care. It was therefore proposed to first develop guidelines for children and thereafter consider a similar approach for other specific groups.
The content of these guidelines acknowledges that wasting and undernutrition in HIV-infected children reflect a series of failures within the health system, the home and community and not just a biological process related to virus and host interactions. In trying to protect the nutritional well-being or reverse the undernutrition experienced byinfected children, issues of food insecurity, food quantity and quality as well as absorption and digestion of nutrients are considered. Interventions are proposed that are practical and feasible in resource-poor settings and offer a prospect for clinical improvement.
The guidelines do not cover the feeding of infants 0 to 6 months old, because the specialised care in this age group is already addressed in other WHO guidelines and documents.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone, including key populations at higher risk of HIV. And the gains made against other infectious diseases,
...
including HIV, are at risk of being reversed as a result of disruptions caused by COVID-19. This is the background to a new report published by FHI 360, in collaboration with UNAIDS, which gives advice on how to minimize the impacts of COVID-19 on key populations.

The Zambia Population Based HIV impact assessment of 2016, reported the prevalence of viral hepatitis in Zambia as ranging between 5.6% among adults aged 15 to 59% in the general population, and 7.1

% among HIVinfected individuals. It is estimated that the majority of persons with chronic hepatitis B and/ or hepatitis C are unware of their infection and do not benefit from promotive, preventive and curative services designed to reduce onward transmission. Zambia introduced hepatitis B virus vaccine to the routine Under 5 vaccination schedule in 2005. Preliminary results from the ZAMPHIA indicate that hundreds of infections have been abated in children since then. However, its also clear that we continue to miss key opportunities to prevent transmission, diagnose and treat infections, prevent serious disease, and in many cases cure people. In addition, high risk groups inter alia health care workers still have limited access to the vaccine.

1PEP GUIDELINES | 2019 EDITION. The prevalence of both HIVand Hepatitis B is high in South Africa therefore there is a significant risk of acquiring these infections following exposure to
...infected material. Studies suggest that post- exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART) is highly effective in preventing HIV infection if taken correctly for the full recommended duration of 28 days, and that prophylaxis with Hepatitis B immunoglobulin and vaccination may prevent Hepatitis B infection if given soon after exposure. This update of the Western Cape guidelines for management of potentially infectious exposures is based on current evidence and guidelines issued by the WHO, NDoH and the SA HIV Clinicians Society. The key aim is to promote successful completion of the recommended ART regimen in the 28 day period of therapy, as well as prevent infection with Hepatitis B

Interim Guidcance March 2020
Peopleaffectedby humanitarian crises, particularly those displaced and...
/or living in camps and camp-like settings, are often faced with specific challenges and vulnerabilities that must be taken into consideration when planning for readiness and response operations for the COVID-19 outbreak. They are frequently neglected, stigmatized, and may face difficulties in accessing health services that are otherwise available to the general population. In the context of this Interim Guidance, the people in humanitarian situations affectedby this guidance may include internally displaced persons (IDPs), host communities, asylum seekers, refugees and returnees, and migrants when in similar situations. While further adaptations might be needed for some population groups, including those living in slums this interim guidance is issued to assist field staff to immediately respond to urgent needs.

Guiding the work of medica mondiale is an attitude of sensitivity towards both trauma and stress.
This stress- and trauma-sensitive approach has a strengthening
...and relieving effect on the affectedpeopleand also the activists, specialist staff and working groups. For medica mondiale, trauma as a
consequence of violence is not to be found exclusively in the area of (individual) psychology, but also
very significantly at the level of society and politics. For this reason, even a multi-sectoral approach
to supporting those affectedby violence cannot stand alone: it must go hand in hand with measures
to bring about change in general political conditions, societal structures and public awareness.

It is estimated that at least 236 million people worldwide are infected, 90% of them in sub-Saharan Africa, and that this disease causes approximately 300,000 deaths annually. The clinical manifestations are varied and affect practically all organs. There are substantial differences in the clinical presentation, depending on the phase and clinical form of schistosomiasis in which it occurs. Schistosomiasis can remain undiagnosed for a long period of time, with secondary clinical lesion. Here, we review the clinical profile of schistosomiasis. This information may aid in the development of more efficacious treatments and improved disease prognosis.

This document (updated in March 2023) is intended for use by individuals, community leaders, influencers, health workers and others affectedby or working on the mpox outbreak. To describe the behavior of Tuberculosis/Human Immunodeficiency Virus co-infection in a cohort of peopleaffected...by sensitive Tuberculosis in Ecuador from 01 January 2010 to 31 December 2015. Results: The percentage of coinfected persons reached 11% in the whole period of study, with a range from 8.4% to 12.7%. Male sex shows the highest incidence rate, representing 76.7% at the rate of 1 man for every 3.3 women. The population with the highest incidence of patients is economically active; the age group of 25-34 years reaches 40.1%. The coastal zone of the country reports more than 75% of the coinfected patients. Conclusion: Increased HIV/AIDS screening should be increased for Tuberculosis, with particular emphasis on male sex and enhance the actions in the coastal provinces.
