En particulier, la couverture et l’utilisation ou exposition des moyens préventifs (MI, TPI chez la femme enceinte, AID et CPS dans les zones ciblées) ont été documentés ainsi que les types et modalités de la prise en charge des cas de fièvre chez l’enfant et la femme enceinte. Par ailleurs, ces indicateurs ont été renseignés en tenant compte des variations régionales, de districts et du milieu de résidence (urbain et rural). L’analyse a aussi tenu compte des variations liées aux faciès épidémiologiques et des zones d’intervention couvertes par les différentes stratégies.

mimic other inflammatory or malignant conditions. Delays in treatment and frequent misdiagnosis can lead to hazardous complications. In countries like Ecuador where the disease is endemic, TB should always be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patients who present with nonspecific abdominal symptoms. In these scenarios, laparoscopy can be an invaluable tool when used with sufficiently high clinical awareness and adequate training.
Case presentation
We present the case of a 37-year-old female patient from Ecuador with a 1-year history of abdominal pain, nausea, intermittent vomits, night sweats, and weight loss. BACKGROUND. Asthma is a heterogeneous condition characterised by chronic inflammation and variable expiratory airflow limitation, as well as airway reversibility. The burden of asthma in children is increasing in low- and middle-income countries and remains under-recognised and poorly managed.

CTIVES. To quantify the burden of asthma in the South African (SA) population and identify the risk factors associated with disease severity in the local context.
METHODS. The SA Childhood Asthma Working Group (SACAWG) convened in January 2017 with task groups, each headed by a section leader, constituting the editorial committee on assessment of asthma epidemiology, diagnosis, control, treatments, novel treatments and self-management plans. The epidemiology task group reviewed the available scientific literature and assigned evidence according to the Grades of Recommendation Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system.
CONCLUSIONS. Asthma in children remains a common condition, which has shown an increasing prevalence in urban and rural populations of SA. Of concern is that almost half of children in urban communities experience severe asthma symptoms, and many asthmatics lack a formal diagnosis and thus access to treatment. Exposure to tobacco smoke and living in highly polluted areas increase the severity of wheezing in young children.

Guidelines for spirometry in South Africa are required to improve the quality, standardisation and usefulness in local respiratory practice. The broad principles of spirometry have remained largely unchanged from previous versions of the South African Spirometry Guidelines; however, minor adjustments have been incorporated from more comprehensive international guidelines, including adoption of the Global Lung Function Initiative 2012 (GLI 2012) spirometry reference equations for the South African population.
All equipment should have proof of validation regarding resolution and consistency of the system. Daily calibration must be performed, and equipment quality control processes adhered to. It is important to have standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and quality and, additionally, strict infection control as highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adequate spirometry relies on a competent, trained operator, accurate equipment, standardised operating procedures, quality control and patient co-operation. All manoeuvres must be performed strictly according to guidelines, and strict quality assurance methods should be in place, including acceptability criteria (for any given effort) and repeatability (between efforts).

date du 30 avril 2022)1 . Ces déplacées ont pour la plupart abandonnées leurs moyens d’existence et se retrouvent dans la précarité et sous l’assistance humanitaire et des populations hôtes.
La méthodologie SMART Rapide a été utilisé pour l’évaluation. Les secteurs/villages ont été sélectionnés par le logiciel ENA en utilisant la probabilité proportionnelle à la taille.
Quant aux ménages, ils ont été sélectionnés selon un processus de segmentation, d’échantillonnage aléatoire simple ou systématique. Les données ont été collectés du 13 au 15 juin 2022 par cinq équipes composées d’un chef d’équipe et d’un mesureur chacune. Les équipes ont été supervisées durant la collecte par des superviseurs. Les paramètres collectés étaient l’âge, le sexe, le poids, la taille, le périmètre brachial et la présence des œdèmes. Quatre grappes ont été inaccessibles due aux problèmes sécuritaires.
Au total, 24 grappes (avec l’utilisation des grappes de réserve), 235 ménages et 356 enfants ont été couverts. Les résultats montrent une prévalence de la malnutrition aiguë globale de 15,2% (11,2%-20,2%) selon le rapport poids/taille et 7,8% (5,0%-11,9%) selon le périmètre brachial. La malnutrition aiguë globale combinée est de 16,9% (12,9%-22,0%).
