Chagas disease (CD) is endemic in about 21 countries of the Americas. The disease has spread to recently Chagas-free regions, mainly due to migration, and can now also be diagnosed in countries such as the USA, Canada, many European and some African, eastern... Mediterranean and western Pacific countries. About 6 million people are infected and 70 million live with a daily risk of infection. Although many efforts have been made to control the disease, and some improvements were achieved, still, less than about 1% of the infected have access to diagnosis and treatment. La XV Reunión de la Comisión Regional de Certificación de la Erradicación de la Polio en la Región de las Américas se llevó a cabo del 25 al 27 de octubre del 2022 en Atlanta, Estados Unidos. Durante la reunión, La Comisión Regional de Certificación (RCC, por su sigla en inglés) analizó ...y validó 6 informes de contención y 4 informes anuales de los países que no entregaron el Informe Anual 2021 en tiempo para su revisión durante la XIV reunión. La RCC también se reunió con el programa doméstico de polio de los Estados Unidos para discutir la situación del brote de cVDPV2. Todos los miembros de la RCC analizaron y aprobaron los resultados de validación y el informe final de la reunión

Avec 13 000 cas suspects et 236 décès notifiés depuis le début de l’année 2022, le choléra demeure un problème de santé publique ...en RDC. La mise en œuvre d’un plan d'action anticipatoire, qui consiste en des interventions ciblées dans les domaines de l'eau, de l'assainissement, de l’hygiène et de la santé, sera accompagnée d'un programme d'apprentissage complet visant à comprendre l'efficacité, adaptabilité et la dimension éthique du projet pilote.

Since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis on 24 February 2022, WHO has supported Government-led efforts and initiatives alongside key partners on the ground. Building on efforts to date, and working alongside Bulgaria’s health authorities to bring added value to existing mechanisms, the WHO Countr...y Office Bulgaria, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the WHO Health and Migration Programme, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Bulgaria and key partners, undertook a joint review mission to support Bulgaria, with a focus on addressing the health system needs of refugees, migrants, asylum seekers and vulnerable host populations in Bulgaria.
The assessment team developed this report on the key findings and a package of potential interventions based on the opportunities identified and the need for technical support and assistance. The report summarizes concrete areas of work for which collaborations can be further strengthened. The joint review team identified key recommendations for consideration across 8 priority areas. The report and the outcomes of the review mission serve as a basis for future technical collaboration in the area of refugee health, to address the health needs of refugees and third-country nationals fleeing from Ukraine.

internationale. Dans sa résolution WHA67.25... l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) a recommandé que soit développé
un Plan d’Action Mondial pour lutter contre la RAM. Ce Plan a été adopté en mai 2015 et recommande notamment la mise en
place d’un système mondial de surveillance de la RAM (GLASS, Global Antimicrobial Résistance Surveillance System). L’objectif
de GLASS est de permettre la collecte, l’analyse et l’échange avec les pays de données standardisées, validées, comparables
sur la résistance aux antimicrobiens.

to deliver essential quality health services equitably for 2023 to 2027. For WHO, this Plan will usher in a new reality -- access
to lifesaving or health-promoting interventions is doable and possible, making the health sector fairer, especially for those

Recovery from COVID-19 has been challenging in Guatemala. As a result of the prolonged socio-economic impact of the pandemic, the average poverty rate nationwide has increased by almost 5%. This rise in the poverty level further exacerbates preexisting vulnerabilities and erodes the limited safety n...ets available to vulnerable populations. Year after year, recurrent disasters and humanitarian crises aggravate the historic social gaps that result in high levels of vulnerability, multidimensional poverty, and overall deprivation of essential services among hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans. According to the World Risk Report 2020, Guatemala is the tenth country with the highest level of exposure to disaster worldwide. Globally, it ranks 28th regarding vulnerability according to the 2021 INFORM’s risk index and 62nd in the Global Climate Risk Index 2021.
In 2020, Guatemala faced a record-breaking and devastating hurricane season with extreme rainfall, catastrophic winds, and deadly landslides, from which the country has not yet recovered. Unfortunately, recurrent extreme weather events, such as Hurricane Julia that hit Central America in early October 2022, progressively but deeply eroded a weak health infrastructure and local health systems.

The successive hydrometeorological hazards that impacted El Salvador over the past two years include tropical storms Amanda and Cristóbal and hurricanes Eta, Iota, and,
more recently, Julia. These storms profoundly affected the lives and livelihoods of almost 900 000 people and significantly disrupted health services, especially at the first level of care. In addition, the country’s exposure to earthquakes, floods, and droughts is also constant. Infrastructural and institutional limitations to deal with emergencies and
low capacity to respond to adverse events are an additional challenge, which leaves the population—particularly the most vulnerable—at even higher risk.

In 2022, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance increased by 300 000 due to deteriorating indicators of maternal and child mortality, pregnancy in adolescent girls, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), suicides, sexually transmitted
infections (STIs), gender-based and sexual violence, and communicable diseases. increasing population trends, primarily due to mass migration movements and the persistence of armed conflicts, create access barriers to essential health services, mobility restrictions, and forced displacement, further impacting the health, lives, and well-being of populations in vulnerable situations. In many territories, geographical distance to health facilities and attacks against medical missions hinder providing appropriate healthcare.

Emergency medical teams (EMT) are first response health care providers – doctors, nurses, paramedics, and others – during outbreaks and emergencies or disasters, working with governments, charities such as nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), armies, and international organizations such as the ...International Red Cross/Red Crescent movement. They comply with the classification and minimum standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners and bring to an emergency their training and self-sufficiency so as not to burden the national health system. EMT initiatives strengthen national surge capacities and facilitate the deployment of internationally classified teams of health- care professionals to countries and territories during emergencies, particularly during disease outbreaks and natural disasters, providing immediate assistance when national health systems are overwhelmed . Considering that they aim to support the provision of quality clinical care services to populations affected by public health emergencies, the expectation is that financial resources and equipment will be available to enable the performance of the requested task.

La serovigilancia es una herramienta que complementa los métodos tradicionales de salud pública para la vigilancia de las enfermedades transmisibles y proporciona información valiosa sobre la transmisión de enfermedades en los grupos de la población; por ejemplo, para detectar brechas en la inm...unidad frente a las enfermedades prevenibles mediante vacunación. Esta información es útil para hacer un seguimiento de la exposición de la población a enfermedades como la malaria, las enfermedades infecciosas desatendidas, las enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos, agua y vectores, así como las enfermedades infecciosas emergentes. Como muchas enfermedades infecciosas están o han estado presentes en grupos que viven en entornos donde se superponen diversos factores de riesgo, la serovigilancia integrada facilita las sinergias y optimiza la utilización de los recursos de salud pública. Este conjunto de herramientas se elaboró para facilitar el diseño, la puesta en marcha, el análisis, la interpretación y el uso de los resultados de las encuestas serológicas integradas para reforzar las capacidades de los países con vistas a la eliminación de las enfermedades transmisibles. En la primera parte se describen los conceptos básicos sobre encuestas y vigilancia serológicas, sus usos, ventajas y desafíos, formas de mejorar su eficiencia, así como su potencial para contribuir a la toma de decisiones de salud pública. Posteriormente, se presenta un proceso gradual para la puesta en marcha de la vigilancia serológica integrada basada en encuestas serológicas. Incluye recomendaciones sobre cómo determinar la necesidad y el propósito de recopilar información serológica; el diseño y la metodología de la encuesta; los métodos del laboratorio; las consideraciones prácticas para la realización de encuestas; el análisis e interpretación de los datos y el uso de los resultados para respaldar la toma de decisiones. Su objetivo principal es apoyar a los directores de programas y equipos que participan en el control y eliminación de las enfermedades transmisibles. Se elaboró para ser usado, entre otros, por los coordinadores de enfermedades transmisibles, enfermedades infecciosas desatendidas y programas de vacunación; directores de vigilancia epidemiológica; personal de laboratorios de salud pública; y otros profesionales de los ministerios de salud y autoridades nacionales y subnacionales de salud que puedan estar interesados en incorporar la vigilancia serológica integrada como parte de las herramientas de sus sistemas de vigilancia, para obtener información adicional sobre la transmisión de enfermedades infecciosas en la población.

As the leading health authority within the United Nations system in Botswana, the WHO Country Offi...ce has been at the forefront of supporting the government to improve health since 1996. The WHO Country Office supports the Ministry of Health in realizing the health goals the Government of Botswana defines. Acknowledging that as an upper middle-income country, Botswana provides the bulk of its resources for implementing health programmes, the WHO directly brings technical expertise to the table by collaborating with relevant partners. Where the country office has limitations in terms of human resources with the requisite expertise to answer the country’s needs, the regional level and headquarters of the WHO will be mobilized to provide the necessary support.
