ht vollständig oder sogar überhaupt nicht eingehalten werden und viele Menschen leiden bis heute unter gesundheitlichen Problemen, denen sie hilflos ausgeliefert sind.Die DAHW Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe e.V. hat sich daher bereits vor über 60 Jahren zum Ziel gesetzt, dieser Ungerechtigkeit entgegenzuwirken. Da Gesundheit vor allem in den ärmeren Ländern der Erde nicht rechtmäßig gewährleistet werden kann, liegt der Fokus der Organisation auf der Bekämpfung der Krankheiten der Armut und ihren Folgen. So besteht die Vision der DAHW da-rin, mit ihrer Tätigkeit dazu beizutragen, eine Welt zu schaffen, in der kein Mensch unter Lepra, Tuberkulose und anderen Krankheiten der Armut und ihren Folgen wie Behinderung und Ausgren-zung leidet. Dafür ist sie in 19 Ländern der Erde tätig.Der Einsatz für weltweite Gerechtigkeit und Gesundheit kann jedoch nur gelingen, wenn jeder Mensch dafür seine Verantwortung und Handlungsmöglichkeiten erkennt. So möchten wir mit die-sem Arbeitsheft Ihnen und Ihrer Lerngruppe Material zur Hand geben, das sich intensiver mit dem Thema „Gesundheit weltweit“ auseinandersetzt. Durch unterschiedliche Arbeitsaufträge soll damit das persönliche Bewusstsein über die Facetten der Gesundheitsthematik gefördert, zum eigenen Urteilen über Ungerechtigkeiten angeregt und zum selbstständigen Handeln für eine bessere Ein-haltung des Menschenrechtes motiviert werden.

e the start of these operations over twenty-five years ago. The IFC has overwhelmingly invested in high-end urban hospitals which are out of reach for the majority of Indians. Several have consistently failed to provide free healthcare to poor patients despite this being a condition under which free or subsidized public land was allotted to these hospitals. Supporting private healthcare in a context where 37% of Indians experience catastrophic health expenditures in private hospitals appears to run counter to the World Bank Group’s focus on poverty reduction. These investments do not contribute to the building of stronger healthcare infrastructure or respond to unmet healthcare needs. Only 14% of IFC-financed hospitals are located in the 10 states ranked lowest in terms of the overall performance of the health system. Furthermore, we found many instances where regulators upheld complaints pertaining to violations of patients’ rights by these hospitals including overcharging, denial of healthcare, price rigging, financial conflict of interest and medical negligence.

Irregular laborers, agricultura land food workers, cleaners and caregivers are all essential in the response to the pandemic, there fore the temporary or longer term regularisation of migrants to facilitate their access to health, social services and employment should be considered as a humane, practical and self-interested alternative to forcible return.

contributing to the (re)emergence of infectious diseases such as population growth, living in close contact with animals, frequent travelling, poverty, destructive ecological changes due to economic development and land use and climate change result in global warming.
Especially Africa is at a threat for (re)emerging infectious diseases due to the huge population growth (expected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050) with rapid urbanisation. Additionally, people across and beyond the continent are excessively mobile which is combined with a weak health system. Moreover, the risk of (re)emerging infectious disease is further heightened by three newly adopted continental initiatives: African Continental Free Trade Area, Free Movement of Persons and African Passport and Single African Air Transport Market.

Agriculture (crops and livestock) is a critical source of employment and a potential option for engaging rural youth. However, environmental degradation coupled with declining and variable agricultural productivity may pose a massive challenge already beset by instability and declining oil reserves (Tagliapietra, 2017). The Arab region is also subjected to short and long-duration climate extreme events, and the overall impact of their cascading effects on ecosystems, societies and economies is still an open question. Climate change, along with post-war geopolitical complexities, has greatly affected the Arab region in terms of its economy and social balance. Climate change has penetrating effects on the region’s agriculture sector and hence its economy. These are mainly manifested via changes in water resources and extreme weather conditions such as heatwaves and a drastic decline in precipitation.

of safe and nutritious food, clothing, medicine, and other products, in addition to having religious and cultural value. Wildlife trade also contributes to livelihoods, income generation and overall economic development.
However, wildlife trade can have detrimental effects on species conservation, depleting natural resources, impoverishing biodiversity and degrading ecosystems (Morton et al., 2021). Wildlife trade, whether legal or illegal, regulated or unregulated, can pose threats to animal health and welfare. It also presents opportunities for zoonotic pathogens to spill over between wildlife and domestic animals, and for diseases to emerge with serious consequences for public or animal health and profound economic impacts (IPBES, 2020; Swift et al., 2007; Smith et al., 2009; Gortazar et al., 2014; Stephen, 2021; Stephen et al., 2022; FAO, 2020). The risk of pathogen spillover and disease emergence is amplified with increased interaction between humans, wildlife and domestic animals. The risk of pathogen spillover has also been exacerbated by climate change, intensified agriculture and livestock production, deforestation, and other land-use changes. Wildlife trade is also a risk to ecosystem biodiversity via the introduction of invasive species (Wikramanayake et al., 2021). Therefore, increased effort must be put into understanding the potential consequences of the wildlife trade, mapping and analysing the adjacent risks, and implementing strategies to manage those risks. Reducing wildlife-trade risks not only helps to limit disease but also minimises the negative effects of invasive species. Between 1960 and 2021, invasive alien species caused estimated cumulative damage of around 116 billion euros across 39 countries in the European Union alone, despite strict import regulations (Haubrock et al., 2021).
