air pollution have a positive impact on both human and planetary health. In the energy sector, transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is if vital importance to improving health, with mortality rates due to coal-generated electricity 1,000 times higher than for wind-generated electricity.
Promoting active transport such as walking and cycling in place of motorised transport has the dual benefit of reducing both air pollution and physical activity. Livestock production alone accounts for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, with added emissions from food which are highly process and transported over long distances, and thus locally sourced plant based diets both prevent NCDs and promote human and planetary health.

Climate Change. The profiles are geared towards providing a quick reference source for development practitioners to better integrate climate resilience in development planning and operations. Users are able to evaluate climate-related vulnerability and risks by interpreting climate and climate-related data at multiple levels of detail. Sources on climate and climate related information are linked through the country profiles’ on-line platform, which is periodically updated to reflect the most recent publicly available climate analysis. The series is developed by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), the Global Support Program of the Climate Investment Funds, and the Climate Change Team of the Environment Department of the World Bank and was made possible with the support of the Government of Luxemburg, the World Bank, and the Climate Investment Funds.

Overall, models project that new geographic areas along the fringe of current geographic ranges for Aedes will become environmentally suitable for the mosquito’s lifecycle, and for dengue transmission. Many endemic countries where dengue is likely to spread further have underdeveloped health systems, increasing the substantial challenges of disease prevention and control. Control focuses on management of Aedes, although these efforts have typically had limited effectiveness in preventing outbreaks. New prevention and control efforts are needed to counter the potential consequences of climate change on the geographic range and incidence of dengue, including novel methods of vector control and dengue vaccines.
