Women have less access to the development services and support – such as adequate healthcare, education and modern technology – that make people more resilient to climate change ... other shocks and stressors.2 Women’s unequal access to resources, their disproportionate responsibility for care of dependents (typically unpaid), and the insecurity and precariousness of their paid labour all contribute to the feminisation of poverty and women’s heightened vulnerability to climate hazards. Climate change is a multiplier of existing vulnerabilities and threatens to reverse hard-earned development gains for all people, and particularly for women. more
Planning and Implementation Training. Myanmar
This training module on resilient development planning in Myanmar consists of a 2.5 hours session, at the end ... which, the participants will:

b) Be able to identify the various factors which contribute towards disaster risk including climate change in Myanmar.
c) Be able to identify measures for risk resilient development process in Myanmar.
The three main learning units include:
1. Disaster and development linkages.
2. Components and drivers of disaster risk including climate change.

Workplace Pandemic Preparedness. Training Manual

Ministry of Health Ghana; NADMO Ghana GiZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (2013) C1
A training manual for identifying, assessing, preventing and controlling the risks of pandemics in the workplace. This training manual has been developed for both medical ... non-medical personnel who may be called upon to lead emergency response, (eg epidemic outbreak, etc), ensure effective containment whiles work continues and essential goods and services continue to be supplied. The manual provides insight into some of the local epidemics experienced in Ghana such as Cholera, Cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) and Influenza(s), the causes, signs and symptoms and preventive measures with a view to increasing knowledge among management, staff and their families as well as immediate communities within which they work. more
The Government of Republic of Zambia reported the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 on 18th March 2020. As ... April 27th, 2020, there were 89 confirmed cases, three deaths and 42 recoveries. Confirmed cases are located in three provinces: Lusaka (83 cases), Copperbelt province (5 cases) and Central (1 case). Zambia introduced a series of measures including closure of three international airports, closure of all schools, movement restrictions and closure of non-essential services such as restaurant, bar, gym and public gatherings to curb the transmission rate. more

Despite the increasing population of refugees stuck in protracted situations and our awareness of the vulnerability ... children and adolescents growing in up these contexts, relatively little is known about community based child protection mechanisms (CBCPMs) in refugee communities. CBCPMs, defined broadly, include all groups or networks that respond to and prevent problems of child protection and vulnerable children. These mechanisms may include family supports, peer group supports, and community groups such as primary and secondary schools, non-formal education and vocational training structures, women’s groups, religious groups, and youth groups, as well as traditional community processes, government mechanisms, and mechanisms initiated by international or domestic non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In diverse contexts, CBCPMs represent front-line, day-to-day efforts to protect children from exploitation, abuse, violence, and neglect and to promote children’s well being. This study, together with a parallel study conducted among the urban refugee population in Uganda, is the first study of CBCPMs undertaken in refugee settings. more

After The Earthquake: Nepal’s Children Speak Out

Lucia Withers, Nir Dahal, Tara Bajracharya, Naina Puri Save the Children, World Vision International, Plan International, UNICEF (2016) C1
NEPAL CHILDREN’S EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY CONSULTATION - To better understand the consequences of the Nepal Earthquake for children, four child-centred agencies, in coordination with the Ministry ... Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) and the Central Child Welfare Board (CCWB), conducted a Children’s Earthquake Recovery Consultation using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with more than 1,800 girls and boys from the 14 most severely-affected districts. The objectives of the consultation were to hear directly from children the challenges they are facing in the aftermath of the earthquakes; to assess the impact of the crisis on their roles, responsibilities and future opportunities; and to seek their views on and recommendations for recovery. more
Around the world, approximately 1 in 45 children are on the move – nearly 50 million boys and girls that have migrated across borders or been forcibly displaced within their own countries.1 Climate-related ... and their impacts are already contributing significantly to these staggering numbers, with 14.7 million people facing new internal displacement as a result of weather-related disasters in 2015 alone. The annual average since 2008 is higher still, at 21.5 million, equivalent to almost 2,500 people being displaced every single day.2 more
The Guidance Notes seek to help operationalize, simplify and standardize the collection and reporting of data through the application ... common language and methods. They provide information on the key issues to take into account in the collection of health data and the types of data that should be collated, and potential stakeholders to engage with. They adapt and complement the UNDRR/UNISDR Technical guidance for monitoring and reporting on progress in achieving the global targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which has a multisectoral target audience. more
