La fourniture de sang et de produits sanguins sûrs et efficaces pour la transfusion ou la fabrication d’autres produits sanguins fait intervenir un certain nombre de processus, allant de la sélection des donneurs de sang et de la collecte, au traitement et au dépistage des dons de sang ainsi qu...’à l’analyse des échantillons des malades, à la délivrance de sang compatible et à son administration au patient. Il existe un risque d’erreur à chaque étape de la « chaîne de transfusion », et une défaillance à une quelconque de ces étapes peut avoir des conséquences graves pour les receveurs du sang ou des produits sanguins. Si la transfusion sanguine peut sauver des vies, elle comporte aussi des risques, en particulier la transmission des infections par le sang.
Le dépistage des infections transmissibles par transfusion (ITT) en vue d’exclure les dons de sang présentant un risque de transmettre une infection du donneur aux receveurs est une étape critique du processus visant à garantir au mieux la sécurité des transfusions. Un dépistage efficace des agents transmissibles par le sang les plus courants et les plus dangereux peut réduire le risque de transmission à des niveaux très faibles.

guider les professionnels de soins de santé et des experts en santé publique de différents niveaux du système de santé dans la mise en œuvre de la surveillance renforcée de la méningite cérébrospinale.
Le présent plan prend la suite de deux plans nationaux pour préserver l’efficacité des antibiotiques (2001-2005 et 2007-2010), qui visaient à maîtriser et rationaliser la prescription des antibiotiques. Ce troisième plan a pour titre « plan national 2011-2016 d’alerte sur les antibiotique...s ». Derrière ce titre se profile une menace de santé publique majeure : un nombre croissant de situations d’impasse thérapeutique contre des infections bactériennes, du fait du développement des résistances aux antibiotiques. Cette menace appelle une mobilisation déterminée et durable de l’ensemble des acteurs impliqués dans le cycle de vie des antibiotiques, afin de concilier des objectifs individuels (qualité de la prise en charge des patients) et collectifs (préservation d’une ressource rare, précieuse et difficile à renouveler).

Las olas de transmisión de la fiebre amarilla ocurridas en la Región de las Américas entre el 2016 y el 2018 causaron el mayor número de casos humanos y epizoóticos registrados en varios decenios. La fiebre amarilla es una enfermedad hemorrágica viral grave que representa un desafío para el p...rofesional de salud: exige el reconocimiento temprano de signos y síntomas muchas veces inespecíficos, que pueden parecerse a otros síndromes febriles agudos. La detección temprana de los casos sospechosos o confirmados, el monitoreo de los signos vitales y las medidas de soporte vital, y el tratamiento de la insuficiencia hepática aguda siguen siendo las estrategias recomendadas para el manejo de los casos. El presente informe es el resultado de las deliberaciones sobre la experiencia de expertos de la Región en cuanto al manejo clínico de pacientes con fiebre amarilla, especialmente en brotes y epidemias, mediante la contextualización de esa experiencia en el conjunto actual de la evidencia médico-científica y la consideración de las directrices técnicas ya disponibles en los países de la Región. Presenta flujogramas para la evaluación inicial del paciente con sospecha clínica de fiebre amarilla y sugiere un conjunto mínimo de pruebas de laboratorio que puede ser útil cuando hay pocos recursos; además, detalla aspectos de la organización de los sistemas de salud para enfrentar brotes y epidemias de fiebre amarilla.

En la reunión de alto nivel de las Naciones Unidas del 2018 se fijó el objetivo de tratar al menos a 40 millones de personas con tuberculosis (TB) entre el 2018 y el 2022; sin embargo, en el 2021 ese objetivo solo se había cumplido en un 66%. Las pruebas diagnósticas son fundamentales para logra...r el objetivo, pero constituyen un eslabón débil en la continuidad de la atención. Las pruebas de diagnóstico rápido recomendadas por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (PDRO) son sumamente precisas, acortan el tiempo hasta el inicio del tratamiento, influyen en resultados importantes para el paciente y son costo-eficaces. Aunque el objetivo para el año 2025 es que todos los pacientes notificados se hagan inicialmente una PDRO, en el 2021 tan solo el 38% se hizo una PDRO como prueba inicial, y se determinó que el acceso a las pruebas diagnósticas era un problema crítico. Una de las principales consecuencias del uso insuficiente de las PDRO es la gran brecha en la detección de la farmacorresistencia. Las Guías para la calidad del agua de consumo humano: pequeños sistemas de abastecimiento de agua se han elaborado para tratar las necesidades y oportunidades asociadas a los pequeños sistemas de abastecimiento, con el fin de facilitar la mejora progresiva hacia unos servicios seguros y sostenibl...es de agua de consumo humano para todas las personas. Estas Guías se basan en la recomendación principal de las Guías para la calidad del agua de consumo humano de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, y proporcionan orientación sobre la aplicación de esas recomendaciones a los pequeños sistemas de abastecimiento de agua en particular. El objetivo de estas Guías consiste en ayudar a los gobiernos y a los profesionales a mejorar la seguridad del agua de consumo humano suministrada a través de pequeños sistemas de abastecimiento.
