Objectives and scope of the document This document was developed to provide recommended management strategies for problems and disorders that are specifically related to the occurrence ... a major stressful event. The recommended strategies will form the basis of a new module to be added to the WHO (2010) mhGAP Intervention Guide for use in non-specialized specialized health-care settings. The scope of the problems covered by these guidelines is: symptoms of acute stress in the first month after a potentially traumatic event, with the following subtypes: - symptoms of acute traumatic stress (intrusion, avoidance and hyperarousal) in the first month after a potentially traumatic event; - symptoms of dissociative (conversion) disorders in the first month after a potentially traumatic event; - non-organic (secondary) enuresis in the first month after a potentially traumatic event (in children); - hyperventilation in the first month after a potentially traumatic event; - insomnia in the first month after a potentially traumatic event; posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD); bereavement in the absence of a mental disorder. more
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is committed to ensuring the effective implementation of this strategy, which will contribute to the over... more

This document synthesizes key elements of the World Health Organization (WHO) normative guidance on health policy and system support ... community health worker (CHW) programmes and their application for HIV programmes. Building on relevant elements of HIV guidelines, tools and evidence identified by experts, it provides recommendations on tasks and roles that can be performed by CHWs (including for HIV), identifies the policy and system supports to optimize CHW performance, and gives examples of best practice. Its purpose is to inform the optimal design and delivery of CHW programmes targeting – either specifically or as part of a broader approach – the scale-up and sustainability of HIV services. more

To support the achievement of health equity in the Region, the regional inter-agency movement Every Woman Every Child Latin America and the Caribbean (EWEC-LAC) advocates ... and supports the use of equity and evidence-based policies, strategies and interventions to accelerate equitable progress in the health of women, children and adolescents. Although progress has been made, great inequities persist. Women from the LAC region’s poorest countries are almost four times more likely to die due to complications during childbirth than those living in the wealthiest countries. Through the years, several tools, instruments and methods (TIMs) have been developed by global, regional and country partners that can be used to conduct systematic equity-based analyses and/or re-designs of health systems, programs, strategies and interventions. The main purpose of this document is to present an overview of existing TIMs that can be used by policymakers, program managers, development partners, nongovernmental organizations, academia and civil society partners to strengthen systematic identification, analysis and responding to social inequities in the health of women, children and adolescents in LAC. The TIMs included were identified through a systematic search process more

This report makes the case for a major new initiative—to rapidly recruit, train and deploy 2 million community health workers in Africa. Drawing on a vast body ... evidence and substantial regional experience, the report shows how community health workers save lives and improve quality of life and how investments in community health workers effectively harness the demographic dividend, reduce gender inequality and accelerate economic growth and development. Indeed, the benefits of community health workers stretch from one end of the Agenda for Sustainable Development to the other. more
