Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an important public health concern shared by developed and developing countries. In developing countries the burden of infectious diseases is greater and exacerbated by limited access to, and availability and affordability of, antimicrobials required to treat infect...ions caused by AMR organisms. With drugs not listed on the essential drugs list (EDL), problems of increased morbidity, costs of extended hospitalisation and mortality are extremely serious. The problem of susceptibility to and spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) infectious agents is fuelled by factors such as limited access to clean water and sanitation to ensure personal hygiene, malnutrition, and the HIV/TB epidemic.

AMR is a serious and growing global problem. A WHO report released in 2014 stated that this serious threat is no longer a prediction for the future it is happening now in every region of the world and has potential to affect anyone, of any age in any community – a real threat to the public health.... The coming together of the various important stakeholders to develop this document is the testimony of their agreement of how serious is the issue at hand and their intentions to combat AMR is translated into an Action Plan. WHO also reported that there are about 2 million people in the US are infected with the AMR organism while 23,000 die annually from AMR infections. Fiji is just 10 hours journey away from the United States of America therefore Fiji must act now to keep our population safe from AMR organisms.

This action plan for the Kingdom Saudi Arabia to combat antimicrobial resistance has been formulated in the line of the WHO five objectives. The present National action plan on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with component of antimicrobial consumption (AMC) covering both human and agriculture sectors was developed based on the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global plan on AMR dated 2015. With the purpose to develop this plan, in May 2...016 an intersectoral and interagency working group was established under coordination of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Service (SSESS), the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population (MoHSPP) of the Republic of Tajikistan. With technical as- sistance from the WHO a number of seminars, consultation meetings and workshops were conducted to identify country's priority areas and required actions for AMR con- tainment and AMC and control.

Данный Национальный план в области Устойчивости к противомикробным пре- паратам (УПП) с компонентом потребления противомикробных препаратов (ППП), для секторов зд...авоохранения и сельского хозяйства был разработан на основе Глобального плана Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ) по УПП, 2015 года. Для подготовки этого плана, была создана межсекторальная и межведомственная рабочая группа, координируемая Службой государственного надзора здравоохранения и социальной защиты населения (СГНЗ и СЗН), Мини- стерства здравоохранения и социальной защиты населения (МЗСЗН) Республи- ки Таджикистан в мае 2016 года. С технической помощью ВОЗ, были проведены несколько семинаров, консультативных встреч и работ по выделению приори- тетных направлений и необходимых мероприятий в стране по сдерживанию и контролю за ППП и ростом УПП.
