In recent decades, there have been concerted efforts to improve mentalhealth services for youths alongside the challenges of rising healthcare costs and<.../span> increasing demand for mentalhealth needs. One important phenomenon is the shift from traditional clinic-based care to community based mentalhealth services to improve accessibility to services and provide patient-centred care. In this article, we discuss the child and adolescent community mentalhealth efforts within the Asia-Pacific region.

The report reveals weak national mentalhealth services overburdened by the demands placed on them by the Syria crisis. Health facilities which pre...viously provided integrated mentalhealth services in Syria have themselves become casualties of war, with most either destroyed, damaged or not functioning. The shortage of trained mentalhealth care providers is viewed as critical, both in Syria and in the neighboring countries where refugees now reside. Strengthening and expanding these services is crucial for Syria’s longer term recovery because the need for treatment will last for years after the war ends.more

The Global Movement for MentalHealth has brought renewed attention to the neglect of people with mental illness within ...ighlight medbox">health policy worldwide. The maltreatment of the mentally ill in many low-income countries is widely reported within psychiatric hospitals, informal healing centres, and family homes. International agencies have called for the development of legislation and policy to address these abuses. However such initiatives exemplify a top-down approach to promoting human rights which historically has had limited impact at the level of those living with mental illness and their families.
